Top 10 List of Universities by Enrollment



1. Allama Iqbal Open University: Allama Iqbal Open University or AIOU was founded in 1974 in Islamabad, Pakistan. At present it is the largest university by enrollment in the world. Ta the time of its foundation it was the second Open University in the world. It was the first university in Pakistan to offer distance education. It allows the students to continue study besides doing job. Furthermore the female get the opportunity to study staying in home. Currently the number of students of this university is 1,806,214. This university is in the first position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.
2. Indira Gandhi National Open University: Indira Gandhi National Open University is a national university which was named after the ex-Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. This university is also known as IGNOU. This university was formed after the “Indira Gandhi National Open University Act, 1985” (IGNOU Act 1985) was passed by the Parliament of India with the budget of 2,000 Indian Rupi in 1985. Now the total students of this University are 1,800,000. This university is in the second position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

3. Islamic Azad University: This University was founded in 1982 and headquartered in Tehran, Iran. It is mainly a chain of private universities. It has more than 400 branches over the country as well as in other countries. It has universes and branches in United Kingdom, U.A.E, Lebanon, Armenia and Tanzania. It has assets which will be worth around $20 to $25 billion. It has now about 1,500,000 students and it is in the third position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

4. Anadolu University: Anadolu University was formed in 1982 in Eskişehir, Turkey. It is a public university which was formed by the union of four educational institutes the Institute of Education, the State Academy of Architecture and Engineering, the Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences of Eskişehir and a medical school. Now is has 1,041,180 students. This university is in the fourth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.
5. Bangladesh National University: The National University of Bangladesh is a parent university of Bangladesh, situated in 1992. Its headquarters is in Gazipur, Dhaka. It is a university which is run by state. Its main focus is on the development of the campus with course of high level. Its present Chancellor is President Zillur Rahman. Its total students are 800,000. This university is in the fifth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

6. Universitas Terbuka: UT is 45th state university of Indonesia which was founded in 1984. This university offers open and distance learning (ODL) system. This system is doubtlessly very effective. It helps to make the people educated by increasing the outreach of education. It has allowed all types of people to be educated including those who lives in remote places like islands. Now the number of its students is 646,467. This university is in the sixth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

7. Bangladesh Open University: BOU is a national university headquartering Board Bazar, Gazipur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established after the Bangladesh Open University Act, 1992 (BOU Act 1992) was passed by the Parliament of Bangladesh on 21 October, 1992. It is the only university of Bangladesh which provides distance education. This Open University has now about 600,000 students. It is in the seventh position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

8. Ramkhamhaeng University: This University is one among the two open universities in Thailand. It was established in 1971 and named after the name of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great of Sukhothai who is credited for the creation of Thai alphabet. Before this university’s foundation, there was crisis of seats in the universities of Thailand.  Now this university has 525,000 students. It is in the eighth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

9. University of Pune: This University is among the India’s premier universities, located in the North Western Pune. It was founded in 1949. Formerly it was known as University of Poona. The number of the academic department of this university is 46. By the Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the University of Pune has got “A” rating for its overall performance. At present it has 496,531 students. This university is in the ninth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.

10. University System of Ohio: University System of Ohio is the public university system of Ohio’s state. In 2007 it was unified under Governor Ted Strickland. This university is governed by Ohio Board of Regents. The University System of Ohio consists of Ohio’s all public institutions: 24 regional or branch campuses, 13 state universities, 23 community and technical collages and 1 public medical college. This university has now over 478,000 students. It is in the ninth position in the Top 10 List of universities by enrollment.
